次世代iPodのプロセッサはサムスン製

EETimesによると、アップルの次世代iPodに採用されるメディアプロセッサはサムスン製になるとのこと。これまでプロセッサを供給していたPortal Playerがアップルとの契約打ち切りを発表(した途端に株価が40%近く下落)していましたが、新たに契約を勝ちとったのはサムスンだったことが明らかになりました。

次世代iPodに搭載されるチップの詳細は(ARMベースという以外)よく分かりませんが、これでPortal Playerの新チップPP5022の機能に基づいたBluetooth/WiFi両対応の無線iPodという推測は白紙に戻ったことになります。
