サムスンとシーゲイトから"ReadyDrive"対応HHD

開催中のWinHEC 2006にて、128MBフラッシュメモリをバッファに搭載したハイブリッドHDDの稼働プロトタイプが公開されました。メーカーはサムスンとシーゲイト。大容量バッファで高速な起動・復帰と低消費電力を実現するというHHDですが、オフィスアプリケーションでスクリプトを走らせつづけるテストでは「3～4分に一度しかHDDが回らない」とのこと。どんな条件なのかこれだけではぜんぜん分かりませんが、(PC Magの記事中の)サムスンの説明ではノートPC全体の消費電力を最大40%削減できるとされています。

市場投入はVista搭載のノートPCから。それ以外のOSでも使えることは使えるものの、VistaからサポートされるReadyDriveの恩恵は受けられないようです。
