NVIDIAからx86互換CPUが登場？！

AMDのATI買収に続いてインテルがNVIDIAに接近という噂など、ヘテロなマルチコアチップ時代へ向けて話題に事欠かないCPU / GPU界隈にまた面白いネタがでてきました。Inquirerが匿名のソースに「確認した」ところによると、NVIDIAは独自のx86互換プロセッサを開発中であるとのこと。

Inquirerによれば、NVIDIA製x86互換チップは先日発表されたポートランドのデザインセンターで開発されており、2008年にも45nmプロセスのCPU/GPU統合プロセッサとして登場するとされています。

いまのところなんら公式な発表や声明があったわけではなく、傍証になりそうなのは元インテルの技術者が設立したスタートアップ企業StexarからNVIDIAが何人かエンジニアを獲得した(らしい）という話くらい。普通に考えればx86互換でGPUを統合した組み込みチップといったものが想像されますが、PC向けにAMD / インテル / NVIDIAが並列したり、G80のような力業冷却機構をもったCPUの登場を妄想しても幸せになれます。
