VESA、新世代インタフェイス規格DisplayPort 1.1を承認

PCディスプレイの規格化団体VESAが、次世代インターフェイス規格DisplayPort 1.1を承認しました。DisplayPortは現在のDVIやVGAを置きかえるもので、デュアルリンクDVIより広い10.8Gbpsの広帯域、双方向通信、USBサイズで着脱しやすいコネクタ、オプションで音声も扱えることなどが特徴。外部ディスプレイとの接続のほか、ノートPCなど機器内部でのディスプレイ信号伝送にも使われます。新たに承認された1.1規格では、Blu-rayやHD DVDに使われるコピープロテクト規格HDCP 1.3に対応しました。

おなじく次世代規格であるHDMIとは、簡単にいえば家電陣営のHDMI vs PC陣営のDisplayPortの関係。DisplayPortを推すのはたとえばAMD、インテル、デル、HP、レノボ、NVIDIAなど。HDMIとはライバルではあるものの、DVI / HDMI信号をDisplayPortコネクタで送るケーブルアダプタも用意されます。

1.1になっても採用製品はでていないものの、2007年内にはAMDあたりから登場する見込み。規格が混在するのは困ったものですが、片手で簡単に着脱できるコネクタは大歓迎です。

家電業界とでは住み分けができそうですね。
PS3も晴れて家電側になれた様でうれしいです。

でも簡単に抜けると困るコネクタのような…
