「Vistaディスクに謎の三人組」は開発者

Windows VistaのDVDラベルに微細な隠し画像が発見され謎の三人組が写っていたという話題はマイクロソフト広報が「ノーコメント」だったためか憶測を呼びましたが、わりとあっさり正解があきらかになりました。

MS公式Windows Vista Blogによれば画像は偽造防止手段のひとつで、「謎の三人組」はVista DVDのホログラムラベルデザインを担当したスタッフとのこと。また三人組以外にも見つかっている画像についてはパブリックドメインの名画であると説明されています。(たとえばこちらの一番下の画像はフェルメール「窓辺で手紙を読む若い女」)

つまり紙幣とおなじく偽物を作りにくくするための隠し模様であり、データの読み込みにはまったく無関係という予想通りの答えとなりました。隠し画像を見抜ける組織でないと(Vistaの偽造は)難しい、といったところでしょうか。
