Huawei has announced the new FreeBuds Pro, a new line of fully wireless earbuds.
This model is an overall improvement in active noise cancellation up to 40db, a voice mode that allows the human voice to pass through while suppressing ambient sound, simultaneous Bluetooth connection with two devices, and extended battery life and shorter charging times.
Speaking of the FreeBuds, the previous model looked too similar to Apple's AirPods to dare to change, and the FreeBuds Pro is similar to the AirPods Pro in that the stem has been shortened, and the body of the earbuds has expanded into a collapsed egg-like shape.
But this time around, the stem is square instead of cylindrical and extends above the connection to the body of the earbuds, differentiating it (from the AirPods more so than the previous model). There's also a large logo that makes a strong statement that it's not Apple.
The main feature, noise cancellation, has been improved to 40db, compared to the 32dB maximum of its canal-type predecessor, the FreeBuds 3i.
There are three modes of noise cancellation: Ultra Mode for maximum effect, Cozy Mode for relatively quiet places to reduce the sound of typing and paper, and General Mode for general noise reduction in the city, with automatic switching depending on the environment.
The transmitted sound mode, which is necessary for noise cancellation in earplugs, corresponds to the voice mode, which allows only the voice to pass through while reducing noise, and the Awareness mode, which is for when you want to hear voices and sounds while reducing background noise.
Other specifications are as follows.
Bluetooth compatibility: BT 5.2
Simultaneous Bluetooth connection with dual devices (Android and iPhone, or smartphone and PC, etc.)
4 hours (with Noise Cancellation enabled)
7 hours (with Noise Cancellation disabled)
About 40 minutes for the earbuds (in the charging case)
About 1 hour for the charging case (wire, without earbuds)
About 2 hours for the charging case (wireless, without earbuds)
Up to 30 hours of use when coupled with the charging case
11 mm dynamic driver
Pinch the stem to play/pause music, and swipe to adjust volume
Latency 180 ms
The FreeBuds Pro has a preliminary price of €199. It will be available from October in markets that carry Huawei products.
