This article will explain how to add and change villagers in the Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons (ACNH), which was released on March 20. 10 villagers (residents) can live on the island and up to 8 players can be registered, bringing the maximum total to 18 characters. Also, according to the official Animal Crossing Twitter account, 383 characters can move to the island.
I hope you all had a good week!

How is everyone going to spend the weekend, eh?
We'll be sending application guides for our Deserted Island Getaway package
to our Nook's Homes customers.
We're sending a total of 383 letters... I'll address each of them with utmost care!
Upon testing, we found that you can't exchange residents until your island reaches maximum capacity. So, first we'll explain how to increase your resident population to the maximum of 10.′ Step 1: From 2 to 5 residents
At the start of the game, 2 characters will move to the island along with the player character. After progressing through the game and building your first Log Bridge, Tom Nook will give you 3 Housing Kits. Villagers will begin moving in one by one, starting the day after you choose locations for the houses and deliver the furniture requested for each house.
At this point, you can use Nook Miles Tickets to go to deserted islands, where you will encounter animals you can invite to move to your island.
′ Step 2: From 5 to 10 residents
After the Resident Services building renovations are finished, Tom Nook will ask you to build a Campground to entice musician K. K. Slider to the island. Various animals will visit your Campground, and you can invite them to live on your island. Once a camper decides to move in, you can talk to Tom Nook to select a location for their house.
After one animal decides to move in, you will unlock an action to "Sell some land" when you talk to Tom Nook about infrastructure. He charges a fee of 10,000 Bells per house lot. Once a house lot is sold, the player will receive 1,000 Miles. At this point, a total of 10 villagers can live on your island.
′ Step 3: Amiibo
▲You can invite an animal to the Campground by tapping an amiibo card on the Joy-Con joystick on the right.
After setting up your Campground, you'll be able to invite animals to the Campground using amiibos at the Resident Services Terminal inside Resident Services. Only "Animal Crossing Amiibo Cards Series 1-4" and "Tobidase Animal Crossing Amiibo +" cards can be used to invite animals to the campground, and only animals that are able to move to the island can be invited. Amiibo figures cannot be used. However, those cards were released in 2015 and 2016, so they are difficult to obtain. We're hoping that Nintendo will re-release them, or release a new lineup.
To get a camper to move to your island, you must give them three separate presents of furniture that you crafted on your island. You can only give them one present once a day. So, once you invite a camper using an amiibo card, give them furniture over multiple days. If they request furniture that you don't have a DIY recipe for, we recommend that you give up for that day. They'll request a different piece of furniture if you talk to them on another day, so players that don't have many DIY recipes can still recruit campers as long as they're patient.
′ Step 4: Change residents
In previous games in the Animal Crossing series, players were able to force residents to move out by bullying them in ways such as hitting them with a net or pushing them into a pitfall. We tried this many times in the new game, but although they don't like being treated badly, it doesn't make them move out.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, once you reach the maximum of 10 residents, you will be able to pick a resident to move out of the island when you invite an animal to move in. Animals will only come to your Campground sporadically during normal play. It's more efficient to use amiibo cards to invite the characters you want.
