A celebratory event has started as a grand finale for the 5-week Throwback Challenge timed research event.
Players who completed all the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh region timed challenge events in May will automatically receive the “Throwback Challenge 2020” special research in which they will be able to get Genesect, Galarian Pokémon, rare candies, and Professor Willow’s glasses.
And if you didn’t manage to complete all the timed challenges then you can buy a ticket from the store for 980 yen that will give you access to the same special research. (Players who receive the special research for free can also buy the ticket. More on that later)
And that’s not all. All players will now be able to encounter Galarian Stunfisks in the wild, and Galarian Meowths, Galarian Darumakas, and Galarian Zigzagoons will now hatch from 7km eggs.
The event will be available until 1pm June 8th. As long as you get access to the challenge by that date then you will be able to complete it later.
How the Throwback Challenge Special Research will work
Whether you receive the special research for free will be decided based on whether or not you completed all four of the Throwback Challenge timed research events held in May.
You can get access to the special research by buying the ticket, but as you can purchase the ticket even if you have completed all four challenges (and receive slightly different rewards for doing so), there are four different scenarios to consider.
A: You completed all four timed research challenges
Professor Willow will automatically send you the Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research. You will be able to complete it even after the challenge period ends.
The rewards are:
Rare candy x5
Professor Willow’s glasses
Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Blitzle, Audino, Darumaka, Gothita
A1: You don’t buy the ticket
You don’t miss out on anything in particular.
A2: You also buy the ticket
You get yet another Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research. It’s basically the same as the first one, except that the Pokémon encounters will be replaced with 10 rare candies, and Professor Willow’s glasses will be replaced with stardust.
B: You did not complete all four timed research challenges
B1: You buy the ticket (by 1pm June 8)
You receive the same Throwback Challenge 2020 Special Research as the people from “A” and receive the same rewards.
B2: You do not buy the ticket
You don’t receive the special research. However, while the event is running all players, whether they purchase the ticket or not, will encounter Galarian Stunfisk in the wild and will have the chance to hatch Galarian Pokémon from 7km eggs.
Available for all players (until 1pm June 8)
Galarian Stunfisk will appear in the wild.
Unovan Pokémon will appear in the wild
7km eggs received while the event is ongoing will hatch Galarian Meowths, Galarian Zigzagoons, Galarian Darumakas, or Galarian Stunfisks.
As always, the content of the eggs will depend on the time you receive them. In other words, if you received a 7km egg before the start of the event then even if you hatch it during the event you won’t get one of the event Pokémon.
Likewise, if you receive a 7km egg during the event then even if you hatch it after the event ends you will still get an event Pokémon.
Pokémon GO have announced that the special bonuses, which include cutting the distance you need to walk to hatch an egg by half, will continue through June.
If your box is full of old eggs then now is a great chance to hatch them more quickly than usual before the five days event ends, and if you want to increase your chances of getting Galarian Pokémon then make sure you open gifts from your friends and get those 7km eggs before your box fills up again with 2/5/10km eggs from PokéStops.
