Celestron SkyScout：星を教えてくれるスマート望遠鏡

天文データベースとGPS、傾き/地磁気センサを内蔵、現在見ている星の情報を教えてくれる携帯望遠鏡。

GPSと電子コンパス・三軸傾きセンサによってユーザが空のどこを見ていても天体を認識できるだけでなく、電源を入れるとデータベースと位置情報から「今夜の必見トップ10」を教えてくれたり、星座の見方や天文学について学習するソフトもあり。またUSBでPCと接続すればスペースシャトルなどの宇宙機や彗星といった一時的なイベントもデータベースに加えることができる。またSDカードスロットでも天文ソフトウェアやデータのアップデートが可能。

PC用のプラネタリウムソフトで星空にさまざまな情報を表示したり学習できるものはいくらもありますが、これは望遠鏡を通して自分の目で夜空を観測しつつそれを実現するような、あるいは天文にものすごく詳しいひとがとなりで教えてくれるようなデバイス。1月のCESに登場するらしいのですが、普通のコンシューマーの手に届く価格になることを切実に希望。
