ADSLよりも速いカタツムリ通信

イスラエルのハッカーカンファレンスKinnerNet にて新データ転送プロトコルSNAP (SNAil-based data transfer Protocol)の実証試験がおこなわれ、既存のADSL等よりも高速な通信が可能であることを実証しました。

SNAPは写真の通り腹足類(GastroPod)生体キャリア"G-Pod"を利用するもので、データは各4.7GBのパケット2つによってパラレル転送される。今回の実証試験で使用されたキャリアはGiant African Snail (アフリカマイマイ)。G-Podキャリアは他の生体キャリア(例えばRFC1149に規定される鳥類)と比較してやや遅いものの、SNAPによるデータ転送は従来の一般的な通信方式よりも高速であるという結果が得られたとのこと。実用化に向けたさらなる研究が期待されます。
