Nvidiaが「ソニーの次世代機」用チップを設計

プレイステーション3用グラフィックチップRSXの設計を担当したNvidiaがソニーとの新たなエンジニアリング契約を獲得。Nvidia CFOのMarv Burkett氏によれば新たな契約は2007年まで続き、規模はRSXの3000万ドルをさらに上回るとのこと。

というわけで当然問題になるのはどんな製品のためのチップなのかということ。汎用品ではなくわざわざ新規にデザインするということはHDDあるいは大容量フラッシュメモリを搭載するという次世代PSPなのか、あるいはもっと他の製品のためなのか。恐らくは高度な3D性能と大画面液晶を備えた次世代MDプレーヤか何かじゃないでしょうか。
