Sea Orbiter：2年で世界を一周する海の宇宙ステーション

フランスの建築家Jaques Rougerieが構想する「海の宇宙ステーション」Sea Orbiter。高さ50メートルにおよぶ巨大ブイまたは海上建造物といったもので、動力を使わず風と海流に乗って二年で地球を一周します。用途は海洋・環境・生物学の研究観測施設。

現在は模型でのテストがおこなわれている段階ですが、NASAやESA(欧州宇宙機関)が実現に興味を示しているとのこと。

環境や海洋生物の観測に成果が期待できるのはもちろん、将来の月面基地や有人探査計画に向けて「科学者チームを逃げ場のないところに年単位で押し込めておくとどんな惨劇が起きるか」の観測に最適なためではないかと思われます。

瓢箪型の岬が火山の噴火で陸地から切り離され、100年かけて世界を一周する人形劇を思い出しますね
