NVIDIA、GPU 3枚差しの3-way SLIを発表

AMD CrossFireの次はNVIDIA SLIの話題。NVIDIAはマルチGPU技術SLIでグラフィックカード三枚差しをサポートする3-way SLIを正式に発表しました。従来のSLIでは2枚差しのGPU x2、あるいはデュアルGPUカード x2のクアッドSLIに対応していましたが、3-wayでは一般ユーザーが(なにが一般かはさておき) 対応カードを3枚協調で動かせるようになります。3-way時の想定パフォーマンスはシングル時の約2.8倍。

ただしSLI用ポートがカード上に2つないと接続できないため、現行のカードで対応しているのはGeForce 8800GTXまたは8800Ultraになります。対応するマザーボードはnForce 680 SLI。また同カードを3枚同時に動かせるPSUも必要になります。すべてのハードルを超えればグラフィックメモリが計2GB超、ストリームプロセッサ計384基、フィルレートで110ギガテクセル / 秒以上というお化けグラフィックマシンが実現することに。「マシンパワーこそ正義」という世界観をお持ちの方は道中お気を付けて高みを目指してください。
